"Challenges in Time" was a short lived Yahoo group which was intended to set up
interesting Challenges to give doll makers something to stretch themselves
but it died off as these things do... This was the first of the
Challenges - a doll using the theme "Erté" - there were a lot of really
interesting and artistic entries and was great fun! This really
was a challenge - Erté's designs often involved complicated manipulation of
fabrics and I tried to follow this idea. The gown consists of 3 pieces, one
for the bodice and one piece on each side, moving from the back of the cape,
over the shoulder and down the front in a twist, spreading out over the base.
Someone else would have embellished it but I'm way too impatient!
The body pattern was adapted from Patti-Ann Stanley's "Lady Sings the Blues" |

"Turning Seasons" |
The second Challenge was to be anything inspired by the costumes of
the 1890's
through to the 1920's. I've used the idea of "turn of the
century" to make
an hourglass shaped double ended lady who flips from the
1890's to 1920! |
