Thistle

Back to Cloth Dolls Gallery
I was invited to participate in the Alaska Fiber Festival 2006
as there was a special section for dolls.
The theme was "Fantasy Garden" and this was my interpretation of the theme.
Sadly, there's no way to know what everyone else did...

I didn't quite achieve the effect of the rigorous effort of the weed hauling itself out of the flowerpot but, in spite of that,  it won the "Viewers Choice" Award in its section.

The flowerpot has a plastic pot base, covered in quilted & resist dyed fabric.

The "stone" tile was a square of MDF covered with quilted and dyed fabric.

"If I don't get out of here,
This'le be the death of me!"

As you can see I do love a pun!
(I didn't say it was a good one!!)

Dy-Na-Flo paints again - this time the colouring was more to my liking.
The leaves and face were first made up in white dupion and then coloured.

The top of the head was linen fringed out and rolled to form the Thistle head.
