I suspect nowadays I'd be diagnosed as an Attention Deficit child - bright but unfocused!
For a long time I thought there was something not quite right with that but I've
grown to accept that without it I would never have tried and enjoyed half the
things that I have.
In addition, I've found many others just like me...
What we all have in common is just a Butterfly Mind! |
I don't really consider myself an
Artist (with a capital A) which is why
About the "Artist" has quotation marks!
I'm more of a "Technician with Artistic Leanings" -
"...wish it came naturally but still I'm willing to work at it ..."
- Born in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire,
England during the war years (no, not the Great War)
- Emigrated at age 6 to then Northern
Rhodesia, now Zambia.
- Schooled in Kitwe, started my first job at
17
- Worked first as a typist (I was diabolical at it), then as a junior
draughtsman
- Married in 1962 to Richard, moved to Chingola (also in N.R.)
- Heavily involved in Amateur Dramatics - acting, directing, costuming &
set-building
- After 8 childless years, adopted 2 much-loved children - a blonde haired,
brown-eyed boy, Simon and a blonde haired, blue-eyed girl, Nicola
- Worked as a stay-at-home Mom and
Dressmaker
- Went to England in 1977 to earn a diploma
in Pattern-cutting & Design
- Moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 1978
- Worked for 5 years as a Costumier with the
state-subsidised Nico Malan Opera House in Cape Town
- Left to start my own costume shop "Sue Farmer Costumes" which I ran,
along with my husband, for 18 years, doing mascot-making, costume
manufacture and hire
- Sold the business in 2003 so that I could retire and do "my
own thing!"
- Got involved in helping a friend to start a craft business
- Said friend moved to Australia so I still do all the designing and also
handle the South African side of "Prick 'n Stitch Cards" -
www.pricknstitch.com
- Now spend whatever spare time I have making miniatures....
